The Cross Revealed

God has given us all that we need to lead a life pleasing to Him. We abandon confidence in ourselves or other men, and cast ourselves on Jesus, "The author and finisher of our faith".

Who do you say I am?

"And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: And by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, 'who do men say that I am?'".  Mark 8:27

“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

CS Lewis

This is the question of all questions, isn't it? The world admires Jesus if He would stick to being the teacher that delivered the wonderful words on the Sermon on the Mount, or the miracle worker that healed the sick or cast out devils. But this man claimed to be God incarnate. That is just too much for men. They babble nonsense about him being a great moral teacher, but that is illogical, as Lewis says.

But enough about the world. They are headed straight for condemnation. What do I say about Jesus? That is the only question that matters to me. Well, I've looked at the evidence, and it is compelling. Jesus is who He says He is. OK, well done, Dean. What exactly is your response to this fact? If Jesus is Lord, how are you different? What does His lordship mean to you practically?

"Lord, speak to your servant. I want to know what a life of submission to you means, today, as I am living out my days on earth. May I hear your voice clearly, and may I have the courage to follow you. Amen"
